We will need to grow some of our own food in space, and recycle most of our water. Some plants grow well in zero-gravity, while others do not. Lunar pioneers likely will have good luck growing plants in one sixth gravity, but each of the Apollo expeditions only stayed on the Moon for a few days, so there was no time to try farming experiments. The Moon's north and south poles may have water ice in their deep craters that never see the Sun's rays, and this water could be mined to use for crops and also to turn into rocket fuel.
