Explorer XIII, popularly referred to as the "beer can satellite" because of its micrometeorite counting structure, completed its 15th orbit.

Aerojet-General fired largest solid-fuel-rocket motor to date, over one-half million pounds of thrust, at Sacramento, Calif. This motor weighed over 70 tons and was made in several segments which were joined together at the static test site.

Northrop T-38 (Talon) jet flown 842.6 miles per hour to claimed world speed record for women, by Jacqueline Cochran at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
