Australian and Japanese astronomers had identified the chemical signature of methylamine in the dense interstellar cloud Sagittarius B, which was 30 000 light years from the earth near the center of the Milky Way, the Washington Post reported. Methylamine was an organic chemical that mixed freely with formic acid to create glycine, the simplest of the amino acid building blocks of life. Identification of methylamine brought to 29 the number of chemical footprints identified in interstellar space and brought scientists one step closer to understanding the processes creating life.
