Kennedy Space Center announced award of $82 000 fixed- fee contract to Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendorff for preliminary survey of Launch Complex 39 as proposed site for Space Shuttle Landing Facility. (KSC Release 1572)

Soviet nuclear scientist Andrey D. Sakharov had asked Soviet Communist Party Leader Leonid I. Brezhnev and other Soviet leaders to engage in dialogue on program to liberalize "every facet of Soviet life," Christian Science Monitor reported. He had urged that U.S.S.R. announce it would never be first to use weapons of mass destruction and would permit on-site inspection of armament facilities. He also had urged creation of international council to consider questions of peace, disarmament, economic aid, human rights, and environment. (Saikowski, CSM, 6/24/72)
