Dr. James C. Fletcher said that a redesigned space vehicle (the aerospace plane) would take 10 years longer to build than a replacement for the Challenger. He also relayed the information that 44 potentially flawed parts, not including the o-rings, were discovered in the shuttle and would have to be attended to before it could again fly.
