NASA engineers settled on a design for the Shuttle's new booster rockets, and beginning in early 1987, four full-scale tests were planned. John Thomas, manager of the booster design project at Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama, predicted that the tests would run smoothly and that Shuttle flight would resume in February 1988.
