The Manchester Interplanetary Society formally winds up its affairs several months after its co-founders Trevor Cusack and Eric Burgess chose to leave the organisation to form the Manchester Astronautical Association.
"To the Moon in a Space Ship" cover story about the British Interplanetary Society's design for a lunar mission appears in Newnes Practical Mechanics in England.
The first issue of Edward John Carnell's New Worlds science fiction magazine appears in England. The magazine was replacing Maurice K. Hanson's Novae Terrae. This version of New Worlds would only run for four issues before having to be shelved because of World War II. It was revived in July 1946 and would later publish many articles and stories by members of the British Interplanetary Society.
