Intelsat-IV F-5, launched by NASA June 13 for Communications Satellite Corp. on behalf of International Telecommunications Satellite Consortium (INTELSAT), entered commercial service over Indian Ocean. (ComSatCorp Operations Off; SBD, 8/2/72, 167)

Intense solar storm observed by NASA'S Oso 7 Orbiting Solar Observatory July 26 emerged from behind sun on east limb and was immediately studied by scientists at ground-based observatories. Storm had created waves in earth's magnetic field and had affected power systems around world, Oso 7 would be able to follow storm region for several days after storm disappeared behind sun and would provide early warning of possible new eruptions.
