Article in Soviet space magazine Aviatsiya i Kosmonavtika (Aviation and Cosmonautics) had indicated U.S. was not only nation investigating space shuttle development, New York Times reported. Two Soviet space scientists using pseudonyms V. Vasilyev and L. Leonidov had called shuttle "logical continuation of the space exploration effort." Times said it was "first technical discussion" of the space shuttle concept to appear in Soviet press since President Nixon approved U.S. shuttle development in January. (Shabad, NYT, 7/10/72)

Space stamps were most popular topical issues among collectors in America Topical Assn. directory for 1972-73, Book World reported. Space issues, collected by 10% of ATA members, had also led in popularity in 1970-71 directory. (Book World, W Post, 7/9/82, 12)

Llewellen J. Evans, President of Grumman Corp., died at age 49. Evans had joined Grumman in 1951 after four years in Navy Office of General Counsel and had played important role in development of Apollo lunar module. (W Post, 7/17/72, C4; NASA Hist Off)
